Op-Ed: Brower For District 3 Alderman

by Janice W. Summers and Tracey Sperko

District 3 and the City of Milwaukee stand at a critical crossroads, facing challenges that require bold leadership, fresh ideas, and tireless energy. To effectively address these challenges and create a thriving future, we must come together and support a leader who truly represents our shared values and vision: Alex Brower.

Alex Brower is exactly the kind of experienced and committed leader we need on the Milwaukee Common Council, and that’s why I’m proudly voting for him on April 1st. Brower has shown he genuinely understands our community’s concerns and values, and he leads a grassroots campaign that actively engages residents from all walks of life. This collaborative spirit won’t stop at the campaign trail; it will become the hallmark of his service in City Hall.

As a parent with a child attending Maryland Avenue Montessori, a vital anchor for our community, and as a proud student of Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS), I deeply appreciate Brower’s proven dedication to our public education system. His role as president of the Milwaukee Substitute Teachers’ Association demonstrates his leadership and his unwavering commitment to improving our schools. Moreover, his endorsement by the Milwaukee Teachers’ Education Association (MTEA) solidifies my confidence that Brower will effectively advocate for the resources and accountability needed to address critical issues—such as lead contamination in our schools and the deteriorating infrastructure at schools like Maryland Avenue Montessori. We need a strong voice in City Hall to fight for the well-being of our children and families, and Alex Brower is ready to lead that fight.

Additionally, Brower’s clear commitment to responsive constituent services sets him apart. He pledges to maintain open communication with District 3 residents through initiatives like a comprehensive quality-of-life survey, enabling him to better understand and proactively address our community’s most pressing concerns. Monthly town hall meetings will further enhance transparency, allowing residents to come together, discuss key issues, and stay informed about City Hall developments. His innovative plan to appoint neighborhood leaders throughout District 3 underscores his dedication to meaningful democratic engagement, ensuring all voices are heard and respected.

Alex Brower’s transparent and inclusive approach to leadership reflects our community’s values and aspirations. By electing him as our next Alderman, we have the opportunity to build a stronger, safer, and more connected community for all of us.

On April 1st, let’s vote for Alex Brower—because District 3 deserves leadership that listens, cares, and delivers.

Janice W. Summers is a District 3 resident and Maryland Avenue Montessori parent; Tracey Sperko is a District 3 resident.
